Community Stuff has an artist as one of its directors, Clare Hackney Ring . Clare was asked by local Councillor, Steve Wallis if she would as part of the regeneration of Seaside, paint a mural over three derelict shops at the junction of Langney Road and Seaside. Spruce up Squad donated money for materials, and Clare worked voluntarily for 70 days painting the mural Musical Legends on site, working on the pavement. Local residents became very involved as they passed each day, with who was going to appear next, suggesting ideas, and watching carefully over the months as the picture was created from scratch. When it was finally finished, there was a street party with local organisations providing the food and entertainment. It has been enjoyed by all ever since, and has become a landmark, for the area. Sceptics said it would be destroyed by tagging and graffiti. This has not happened. Sadly, in this location, its days are numbered. Planning permission has been granted for offices on site. No date has as yet been set for building to start as yet, but Councillor Wallis has committed to finding a suitable venue for it to move onto within the town.
This year Community Stuff was commissioned to paint a mural by the same local Councillor for the Hippodrome Theatre in Eastbourne. The mural is now nearly finished, and will be on the building in September. Watch this space!
